It has frequently made the news in recent years: bus drivers unable to use the toilet during their shifts, simply because of a lack of facilities. Transport company Arriva entered into a partnership with the Pop-Up Toilet Company to make more self-cleaning toilets available for its bus drivers nationwide.
No drains
A self-cleaning toilet was specifically designed and developed for Arriva. During the production process, the Arriva project team discovered that there were no drains at two locations in Friesland. They thought it would be a problem, but the Pop-Up Toilet Company wasn’t worried… Problems exist to be solved!
The self-cleaning toilet was redesigned for these two locations. The engineers designed a unique toilet connected to the power supply and mains water, which is drained via an above-ground, screened-off septic tank. The system is invisible and completely odourless, so nobody even knows it’s there.
Monitored 24/7 digitally from a distance
The toilet and septic tank are monitored 24/7 digitally from a distance. One useful feature: the tank sends a digital warning when it’s nearly full. After each visit, both the floor and the toilet bowl are automatically cleaned, dried and disinfected, so every subsequent visitor can take a seat knowing it’s safe and hygienic.
The Pop-Up Toilet Company has installed toilets in Breda, Tjerkgaast, Zurich and Kerkrade for Arriva. Various other cities have also been provided with self-cleaning toilets.
