Bloemendaal aan Zee, or as it’s better known to tourists Amsterdam-by-the-Sea, is one of the Netherlands’ most attractive seaside resorts. When the sun shines, this resort fills with tourists, day trippers and locals who enjoy the sun, the sea, the beach, and a snack and drink.
‘Good afternoon, can I quickly use the toilet?’
It’s a great place to have fun, especially when lively beach events and parties are organised. Just one problem… where can all the beach lovers go to the toilet safely and hygienically? There were no public toilets in Bloemendaal aan Zee, which meant cafes and restaurants were often used for a call of nature. Hospitality entrepreneurs Ron and Daniëlle de Graaf were asked all too often, ‘Good afternoon, can I quickly use the toilet?’ sometimes hundreds of times on busy days. ‘It was almost impossible to keep up with in terms of hygiene and all the expense,’ recalls Danielle.
Their business was thoroughly renovated inside and out. Nothing was forgotten; from a new kitchen to a beautiful, fresh interior. But Ron and Daniëlle wanted to go further, and have self-cleaning toilets installed inside. An extra requirement was that it had to be possible to remove the toilets, for example in the event of flooding.
A nice challenge that the engineers of the Pop-Up Toilet Company were well capable of dealing with! After a number of visits, sound advice and a great design, three self-cleaning toilets were installed for visitors to Bloemendaal aan Zee. The big advantage? The toilets are also accessible to visitors outside opening hours, because they can be entered from the outside.
