Many cities suffer from a lack of standard and accessible public toilets, as was also the case in the City of Amersfoort. In 2014, the City of Amersfoort renovated the public toilet in the Boterwaag building.
Monumental building
After years of being plagued by problems, which the supplier at the time was unable to rectify, it was decided to get the Pop-Up Toilet Company to take care of this challenging task. Bring it on!
A really nice assignment: the toilet is in a historic building in the heart of Amersfoort. De Boterwaag dates from 1608, so it’s a listed building. It was very important to keep the exterior where the toilet is located in its original state, and at the same time incorporate a hygienic, accessible and modern toilet.
The Pop-Up Toilet Company took care of the situation right from the outset. A plan was drawn up in consultation with the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands, and then implemented with care and attention. The requirement was an accessible, self-cleaning built-in toilet. It resulted in a reference in terms of public toilets, thanks to appropriate advice, a tailor-made design based on quality and functionality, and a transparent TCO.
interesting unknown fact
An interesting unknown fact? Saint George, the patron saint of Amersfoort, lives above the toilet. Every hour, he makes an appearance with his horse and dragon. Where can you find this special toilet? On the Hof in Amersfoort
